I just realized its been ages since I entered a blog entry. I guess I’ve been having a hard time trying to find things that are remotely interesting. It’s all about work, exercise and baby care at my house.
Okay, I’m exaggerating, but that’s what it seems like sometimes.
This past week I’ve been completely engrossed by a very gruesome trial here in Austin. My station has been covering it and even Court TV has been showing testimony since it began. The guy is accused of murdering a girl in his apartment in West Campus, then paritally dismembering her body and fleeing to Mexico. I’ve totally facinated by the testimony, and the defendant, Colton Pitonyak, took the stand yesterday. We were all glued to it as he talked about his drug additions and how this girl he was sleeping with cut up Jennifer Cave’s body and drove him to Mexico. Wow. I’ll bet you anything this shows up in an episode of Law&Order or CSI someday.
I’m staring to get into a groove with this motherhood thing. Luke is finally into a routine, and it’s getting a little easier to handle all of life’s extra chores. Although, I will admit that Andy and I ended up hiring a woman to clean our house twice a month. We just couldn’t do the heavy cleaning. I can handle wiping surfaces and sweeping and stuff, but the house needs extra attention, especially the bathrooms, and I would rather spend the time playing with Luke.
Luke started on solid foods a few weeks ago… first rice cereal, then apples, bananas, and today I’m going to make him pears. And when I say “make,” I mean I’m going to buy the pears, steam them, puree them and freeze them into cubes. A book I bought swears I can save money by doing this and my mom made my food when I was a baby. Plus, this way I can buy organic and not break the bank. You’re probably thinking… what about the money you’re spending on house cleaning!? To that I have to say… I hate cleaning, and I would rather spend the time make sure my son eats the absolutely most nutritious food he can… and by making it at least I know where it’s coming from.
Andy and I are hoping to dig our vegetable garden soon. You know, we had one in Tennessee, but since moving to Texas we haven’t had much time for a garden. But we’re really missing those wonderful fresh vegetables… so we plan on starting small this year. Peppers, tomatoes, tomatillos, green beans and peas. I think the spot we picked out on the side of the house wil be perfect… warm in the morning and shaded in the afternoon when it gets REALLY hot… but it will only be shaded once the Pecan tree’s leaves come in, so the seedlings will get plenty of light on the Spring when they need it. I can’t wait!
